Choosing an Autumnal Venue

In autumn, a cosy space always works well, have a look at countryside locations for places that might suit. When going for this styling, so much else can be added to the venue to really make it individual and special for you. And where better than a stunning country house setting? Woolverstone Hall makes for an idyllic autumn venue - the traditional drawing rooms, the panelled Billiards Room, oozing fall vibes. The Orangery at Woolverstone is perfect, allowing you to make the most of the stunning views without feeling the chill. Our sparkling fairy lights set a twinkling autumn glow, then you could add homemade touches, such as Mason jars with sweets for table favours, styled crates to add levels to your drinks table, pumpkins and gourds as table centres and wooden plaques can be used as information boards for your guests on the wedding day.

Lighting

With the dark evenings, it's important to think about how you want your venue to look and feel especially at night. Lighting can add such a romantic touch, whether that be from the candles on the tables or fairy lights that can bring a much-needed sparkle, to lighting that can be hung from the trees. Check out pictures online or on Pinterest as they can really help with inspiration and ideas, to light up your wedding day.

Autumn Wedding Photos

Autumn evenings can create a beautiful backdrop for your wedding photos, make sure you’ve picked the perfect photographer and discuss with them the types of shots you want taken. Why not try some photographs outside under the lights, or by our stunning river wall? Also why not look at having a photo section for your guests, a photobooth or selfie frame is always a winner when it comes to inside entertainment on cool autumn afternoons. What about considering a firework display or sparklers for guests?

Flowers

Floral designs can add so much to your wedding, they brighten up any venue and can be used in all sorts of ways. There are so many designs and flowers to choose from, so make sure you shop around for what’s right for you. With an autumn wedding you can’t really go wrong, why not try adding richly coloured flowers to your arrangement, such as a hydrangea or a carnation, but remember the type of flowers available depends on the weather, so check with your florist. The Orangery at Woolverstone Hall provides the perfect backdrop, neutral to suit any colour scheme. You could even look to dress some of the stunning fireplaces we have with autumn leaves, pumpkins or battery candles in glass jars.

Food

From your wedding cake to the food served to your guests, there is a fair bit to think about. With an autumn wedding, warm hearty food always works a treat. Whether that be wood fired pizzas or a s’mores selection for your guests to enjoy. With the wedding cake why not try using the same flowers from your wedding bouquet and venue to decorate the cake, this always looks effective and can tie it all together - we love seeing a cake display in our Youngman Room, right next to the Orangery.

Weather

Last but not least, try not to worry too much about the weather, it's out of your control, we would suggest in autumn having umbrellas handy! You could also consider adding heaters or a fire pit outside to add a cosy feel. Why not use crates with blankets for your guests to use with a sweet message, such as ‘To have and to hold, in case you get cold’?

Ultimately, autumn is such a beautiful season for a wedding; the colours, the change in season marking the start of something new, the darker evenings meaning the party can start sooner and those lights will have an extra twinkle – we can also light up the outside of Woolverstone Hall for you. Why not give an autumn wedding some thought?
