A Guide to Choosing your Wedding Venue

Hunting for your dream wedding venue can be a daunting affair, so we’ve put together a handy guide on what to look out for and what to ask when you are choosing your wedding venue.

The right look

Firstly, does it fit your aesthetic? It might be pretty hard to put a fairytale princess wedding in an abandoned warehouse, so think logically and clearly about your wedding vision. Woolverstone Hall lends itself to a wonderfully whimsical, classical wedding. Picture yourself saying ‘I Do’ in our Orangery and then roam around our beautiful grounds in a stand out gown to match. Perfect for the couple who wants their venue to exude elegance.

Ask questions

Secondly, remember to ask what is included when you hire your wedding venue. Questions like ‘do you have access to the whole venue on your big day?’ Or, if they prefer you to use their recommended suppliers rather than your own are all key questions. At Woolverstone Hall you will have access to the entire Grade I listed building on your big day, and although we do have a gorgeous list of recommended suppliers to help you, you are not required to use them! (We’ve put together a great list of questions you should be asking your venue; read part one and part two on our blog.)

Consider the guest experience

Think like a guest! You may have your dream aisle, but your guests will remember having nowhere to park and grubby toilets much more readily than your beautiful floral arch! Ensure that you ask to view the venue's amenities in detail, and have open conversations about the logistics of your wedding day from a guests perspective.

Red flags

Don’t overlook red flags. The venue may be your dream but if you are met with dismissive staff members or snooty event directors, then the venue may not be the dream you want it to be. These people will be handling your big day, so ensure that you trust them. Here at Woolverstone Hall we have a dedicated in-house wedding team to answer any of your questions and be the pair of safe hands on the big day, allowing you to let your hair down and live in the moment.

Trust your instincts

Finally, go with your gut. Gut instincts often kick in with these types of decisions and they are more often than not, absolutely right. It may tick all the boxes on paper but if you get there and it just doesn't feel right, then trust yourself. Your venue is the backbone of your wedding and it is imperative that you feel confident with your choice. We often tell couples to go home and pictures their wedding day a few days after they’ve visited some venues, they are going to picture it in one of the venues they visited without even trying or making a conscious decision about which venue - that’s a clear sign worth trusting.
